Opera Soloist of the Year

In Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Yniold is the world’s last beam of innocence. The boy’s character is portrayed by retelling the events as seen through his eyes, in an attempt to symbolically depict the existence perceived as the world is in decay. Lina Dambrauskaitė’s inherent openness towards the surrounding world helped her capture the character of a candid child. Simultaneously, her life experience helped her flesh out Yniold’s character and bring it closer to the more dramatic sensibility of an abused adolescent. In this role Lina made her debut with the VCO, after which she went on to pursue her studies at the school that quite a few of her senior fellow “Bohemians” consider their second home – the Royal Academy of Music in London. Judging by past experience, it won’t take long to witness the birth of a new opera star since she is already in the Zürich Opera house!
