NIGHTINGALES RETURN

Theatrical concert

Conductor:

Gintaras Rinkevičius

Director:

Dalia Ibelhauptaitė

Everyone found out about the return of the Nightingales after Edmundas Jakilaitis was pooped on by a “bird” on live TV. The story with the mishap of the head of “Lietuvos Ryto televizija” journalist and producer Jakilaitis who was interviewing the MP Arūnas Valinsas went viral in the media. “What’s that? Have the nightingales returned?” wondered E. Jakilaitis and then calmly continued the conversation, leaving the bird’s poop on his shoulder. During the first weekend this video hit over 240 000 views on YouTube.

By 2010 “Bohemians” had already become bold and knew their own value. How else could such an impressive marketing decision be explained? And, in fact, it really was something to look forward to and to wonder about, since at that time most of the first “Bohemians” and future founders of VCO very rarely performed in Lithuania, as they had successful international careers. Naturally, their return to the stage of the Congress Hall in Vilnius would always become a celebration both for themselves and for the audience. A month before the theatrical concerts, a huge bird nest waiting for those returning was built next to the Congress Hall.

D. Ibelhauptaitė and her team were the first to develop a different genre - a theatrical concert - for such gatherings, which featured works of the great classics not yet heard by the Lithuanian audience or performed by soloists for the first time in their homeland. “Bohemians” wanted to celebrate their international achievements and at the same time to simply enjoy making music by performing pieces from musicals, pop songs or other genres during the second part of the concert. For this concert creators of electronic music who had been collaborating with VCO during the “XYZ” project arranged their electronic creations for the symphonic orchestra and operatic voices.
