Orchestra
At the initiative of conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, a collective of young musicians was formed in 1988, and it gave its first concert on January 30, 1989. Bursting into Lithuania’s musical life with unfading energy, original programs, and high artistry, the orchestra was later granted the name of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, marking a decade of creative activity, the orchestra performed its first concert in the new 1,000-seat Vilnius Congress Hall — which was renovated in 2024 and renamed LVSO Concert Hall. The orchestra has already fostered its own traditions, which include special birthday, season opening, and closing concerts, unique thematic programs, premieres of Lithuanian symphonic scores, and concert and staged opera productions.
